A Dr. Erica Merrill Mystery

There is one set of tracks leading to and from the snow-bound cabin of Eugene Pettijohn, dead of a gunshot wound, who was known to be alive after the snow began to fall. These tracks were made by Herb Shultz, an unpopular deadbeat neighbour who discovered the body.

Shultz is arrested but Dr. Erica Merrill, a young veterinarian trying to establish a practice in her hometown, doesn't think Shultz committed the murder. Her boyfriend, deputy sheriff Clay Caldwell, is skeptical; her powerful father interfering; and citizens of the small Northern Idaho county seat, antagonistic.

Her fledgling veterinary practice is threatened, and her relationship with Clay is strained. She decided that she must solve the mystery herself and sets out to prove her point and win acceptance as a person in her own right.


About the Author... 

Anne Barton is a retired veterinarian and flight instructor. She has written five mystery novels, one autobiographical book and numerous articles and short stories. Her short story won the Bloody Words Crime Writers' Conference contest in 2001 and is published in the Bloody Words The Anthology .

Born in Drumheller, Alberta, she grew up in Northern Idaho, returned to Canada, and now lives in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, where she is deeply involved with Habitat for Humanity and her Anglican Church work - that is, when she isn't riding her horse or curling.
